yuck.

*these fish are the same age. ain't that some shi*t?

the FDA is set to approve global consumption of genetically altered salmon.

i hate to get preachy, but this is a huuuuge deal. if AquaAdvantage
gets the green light, so will several other companies.

so bust this, i'm gonna outline some reasons, in short bursts to hold your attention, why this situation is so booty.

  • the salmon we eat now takes 3 years to grow - this will only take 18 months.
  • the dna has been altered, causing the fish to eat all the time, which is why it grows faster
  • you are what you eat.
  • the project is classified under "veterinary drugs," a classification making it unnecessary to fully inform the public of ALL information
  • it's profit-driven; meaning effects to your health are irrelevant

fish eating more doesn't seem all that bad, but it's the significance of it, i say -- as the years pass by, and our food is manipulated more and more, how will we draw the line between what is and isn't unethical?

how will it affect our dna over time? will we start eating more? will our kids? what if they mate?

...and furthermore, why do they NEED to classify the project in such a way as to bar us from knowing certain things?
